Service Call Fee vs. Hourly Rate
Most home service companies charge a two-part fee: a service/dispatch/trip fee that covers
the technician's travel and a minimum charge, plus an hourly labor rate for work performed.
The service fee is typically non-refundable but is often applied toward the repair cost if you
proceed. Always ask whether the service fee is credited toward labor before authorizing work.
Emergency and after-hours rates can be 1.5–2x the normal rate.
